“I love this place! Food that’s just right for me arrives on a beautiful tray. When I can’t work any more, I help myself to a glass of wine and find other writers on the terrace to share the accomplishments of the day. If I feel the need for it, I receive astute feedback on my work.”

Stefanie Glick, Playwright

I've traveled a lot in my life - mostly for work, some for pleasure. I'm a "vacation with meaning" kind of person. Many who've accompanied me on travels, or spoken with me on the phone, would confirm that I'll find something to complain about, while inwardly harboring a question: what's wrong with me? Why am I never happy anywhere? When I arrived at Domaine Valent, I realized nothing was ever wrong with me, I’d simply never found the right place. Here, for the first time, I had nothing to complain about. I felt a community around me, real life happening, not a performance. Conversations somewhere in the house that removed the sense of loneliness without obliging me to participate. When someone takes the burden off my shoulders of keeping myself nourished, it doesn't just feed my body, it feeds my soul. By the third day, I was fully immersed in my work, effortlessly overcoming challenges I thought would make me give up.I wish every filmmaker would spend time here to befriend their narrative, so they could resist the harsh creatures of the film industry business and live fearlessly with their ideas.

The tranquil location provided the perfect backdrop for focused writing.

They could also cater to my gluten-free diet, and still, everything was divine!

I left feeling rejuvenated and deeply inspired. I highly recommend it to any writer seeking a tranquil and supportive environment. It truly was a magical experience, surpassing all my expectations.

For me, personally, this was a perfect getaway - such a luxury to have absolutely nothing else to think about than just your story and how to make it work!

I managed to write 45+ pages, did a lot of research, fixed plot holes and altogether really felt like I could dive all into the creative process.

I needed to add 10,000 words toward a memoir, and my real life wasn’t affording me the environment in which to do so. Plus, I needed to feel cared for and safe. You’ll have all you need, a comfy bed, and you'll eat really well on your schedule. I got the word count I was after.

The environment for concentration is optimal. The team working at the house provide a creative energy that stimulates the process.

I was looking for a quiet place and found it matched my expectations exactly.

I finished the entire outline of my story, completed research and started with the first chapter.

The countryside is exquisite, and most days I took walks to clear my head and think. You are really out in the country - lots of birdsong, everything blooming, and fresh foods at the markets.

Amory is a great companion, smart, warm-hearted, and friendly, the perfect mix of having knowledge and interest in my project, and knowing when to push me just a little, when to leave me along, and when to ask what I needed.

Amory is an insanely talented cook, and I can not describe how healthy and delicious the food was. I am not used to being "taken care of," but she did it gracefully.

The location is ideal for focusing. The rooms are large, the view is lovely, and the beds and linens are comfortable.

Amory is dedicated to ensuring your ability to accomplish your goals - from changing out my desk to one that was more suitable to my needs to ensuring I got the afternoon treats I needed to stay motivated!

She is an incredible cook and prepares delicious meals with so much love! When you are deep in writing it's a grounding experience to step out to a fabulous meal in a lovely setting.

This is a retreat like none other - suited for the independent-minded who want to formulate a retreat for their specific needs.

I was looking for a place and a few consecutive days to clean the draft of my first novel and sort of test whether I am just a cafe writer stealing time from my regular work routine, or if I am able to produce a quality piece of work under the right conditions.

Originally, I arrived with a lot of questions, possibly doubts even, and left with the cleaned draft, 10.000 words added and a clear direction for my writing process.

At this point, and also very much thanks to Vio´s initial guidance, I got the chance to observe myself in the creative process, understand what works for me, and how to best leverage my skills for effective writing. Somehow, after a week full of hard work, I returned home with a complete sense of fulfillment, which is just priceless. 🙂

I've been struggling to get across the finish line with a book, due to a series of family difficulties, work pressures, etc. I really needed to get far away from my daily list of responsibilities.

First, I completed in seven days what I had been struggling to get through for seven months. My book is nearly ready to submit now. On the eighth day, I contemplated my next book.

I ate a ton of excellent cheeses. Plus, crepes, local breads and jams, and a lot of other wonderful food/dishes from local farmers.

Amory's feedback, when I asked her to read three of the essays from the book, had insight, depth and clarity--and came from a different perspective than some of my previous readers, which was great.

I am working on my first novel and needed some quiet and reflective time to work on it. Domaine Valent is a beautiful place to work. The rooms are nice, the bed is comfortable and the hosts took care of my every need, leaving me free to be creative with my work.

I was able to step away from the demands of my life and step into the wild beauty of nature that is the setting of this lovely home. Doing so provided me with much-needed structure and clarity. The time spent there was invaluable.

I needed simply some dedicated time to work on my writing, with a change of scene...and the retreat delivered plus so much more.

Amory was a perfect host, cook, and insightful confidante, truly interested and capable of assisting me with my needs. I especially loved the scenery and great walks, Amory's care, and the great food experience (highly recommended).

The house was charming and perfect.

I needed time away from my usual life to get some writing done. What I loved most was getting immediate feedback on my pieces. Her feedback was so insightful—it really improved my pieces and helped me take my writing to the next level.

The food was also amazing—all with the freshest ingredients bought at farmers' markets, with wine and cheese every night. The hosts went above and beyond on everything.

I was able to comfortably write several thousand words and, above all, boost my confidence. No ‘blank page’ syndrome on any day!

Amory’s approach to coaching works well. As I’m at an early phase of my project, I asked for and received some invaluable, expert tips to improve both the structure and creativity of my work.

I can only echo the positive reviews regarding the creature comforts of the Domaine Valent. The beautiful, clean air countryside location and grounds are as peaceful as it gets, yet without feeling remote..

Amory’s devotion to preparing only locally sourced delicious meat, cheeses, bread, fruit and vegetables is infectious. After spending a morning’s welcome break, shopping with her at a wonderful farmers market, I am converted to her food philosophy!

Amory has created a winning formula for helping others to initiate and follow their flow state of creativity. She does this through a mixture of encouragement, taking care of any practical needs, responding seamlessly to guest’s varying rhythms for socialising or solitude, she listens intently and offers thoughtful provocations, always in service of you and with non-judgement.

My whole experience was life-enriching in ways I did not anticipate, and I have left feeling more connected to my true nature and excited about my renewed creativity. Don’t hesitate, book your stay and experience it for yourself.

WOW! I wrote a lot every single day for most of the day. The complete lack of distraction is priceless. And then of course there were those gorgeous morning walks in the countryside. Fresh air, feeling safe and unrestricted. This does something to the mind… unlocks it, frees it....I left Domaine Valent filled with immense gratitude! Thank you, Amory, for creating this little piece of heaven in the middle of nowhere in the South of France. Being there has changed me and continues to influence the way I write and remind me that breaking the mould is possible.

This experience has been like nothing else...I have never had the opportunity to focus on writing and growth within myself in quite this way and I am so very grateful. Thank you again for giving me a beautiful birthday! There is nothing else I could have possibly wanted.

The stylish old lamp made of white marble immediately caught my eye when I entered the room and sat down at the desk for the first time. The lamp seemed to convey an important message: ‘You’re in the right place.’

The rhythm of my days is defined by meals that are mostly served directly to my desk. These intermezzos from writing are a true feast every single time.

I have been asked what I would like to drink...The hosts made logistical efforts and there it was: a jar full of beautiful chamomile flowers. This whole experience is about being heard and seen. In one’s needs and ideas. It’s also the story of how I became a writer.

...the right amount of space to get to a place where I could begin to hear myself....I had the feeling of not wanting to leave this version of myself that I was able to rediscover here. You have reminded me that I may be stronger than I believe.

I knew I needed to change my writing habits and become more consistent. The stay at Domaine Valent gave me everything I hoped for and more. It turned out to be a truly transformative experience, as I took my confidence and writing ability to the next level.

I needed an inspiring space where I could prove to myself that I have what it takes, where I could show that I can write regularly, not just when I am in the mood. A place where I could sit with my thoughts for hours and stay with them until a breakthrough came. During my stay, I discovered that I can. I also found it very helpful to have someone in the evening to reflect with, discuss lessons learned, and talk through my ideas.

I found her advice on productivity and inspiration extremely useful, even when I was initially sceptical that it would work for me. Amory really knows the craft of writing intimately and has great pedagogical and feedback-giving skills.

There was something about the whole environment that made it easy to hear my own thoughts and reconnect with my passion for writing and research. It’s a tranquil and creative place that allows you to hear your own voice and even fall in love with it. Every guest I interacted with while there felt the same.

I also made great progress on my book in the 8 days I was there.

I simply needed some solid time out to write and develop my manuscripts in progress, with focus and quiet.

I was inspired to start a completely new project and do substantial work on it at the time I was there.
